Domain Name Registration
What's in a name? Domain registration simply refers to the address that people use to find you or your business (in this case, lakeville.co.uk). The cost of registering your domain name is £10 per annum. However, as of June 2005 there were 64,808,485 websites (source) so there is a slight possiblity that your business/company/chosen domain name is taken. If this is the case, do not worry and take a look at the tips below.
- Keep it short - the shorter your chosen domain name is, the easier it is to remember and it also decreases the likelihood of spelling mistakes.
- Try and be unique - naming your domain after (or in a similar way) an existing, bigger competitor is not recommended. If your original choice of domain is taken, consider adding a hyphen or keywords related to your line of business.
- Avoid the use of '2', '4' or 'u' - and the same goes for their counterparts to, for and you. These are are easy to mis-type and difficult to remember, and in our experience, give the impression that they are spam websites.
- Check your chosen domain name's availability - it would be a cruel heartfelt blow to come up with your killer domain name, only to discover its already taken, wouldn't it? So we have prepared a domain searcher! It currently checks .com, .net and .org (which is the order they will be displayed below) - but we are looking to add to this shortly.
